Sherri Sparks, President

Sherri Sparks has been involved in software security for over 5 years. She holds a BS degree in Computer Engineering, a graduate certificate in Digital Forensics, a MS degree in Computer Science, and is currently persuing her PhD. Sherri’s current research interests include offensive and defensive stealth code technologies and digital forensics. She has spoken at Black Hat on these topics and taught the Black Hat Offensive Aspects of Rootkit Technology course. Her published articles have appeared in USENIX Login; ACSAC, Security Focus, and Phrack magazine.

Shawn Embleton, Vice President

Shawn Embleton co-founded Clear Hat Consulting with Sherri Sparks in early 2007. Shawn also has an extensive academic background. He holds BS and MS degrees in computer science and is currently persuing his PhD. Shawn was involved with optical routing research through an NSF fellowship prior to developing an interest in computer security. In 2006, Shawn spoke at Black Hat, USA on the topic of using evolutionary computation for automated vulnerability analysis and co-authored a prototype intelligent fuzz testing tool, called Sidewinder. During 2007, Shawn co-taught the Black Hat Offensive Aspects of Rootkit Technology class and co-founded Clear Hat Consulting with Sherri Sparks. Some of his current interests include hardware virtualization and chipset level programming.
